For movie buffs, the summer of 2023 is shaping up to be a blockbuster season, with an exciting lineup of highly anticipated releases from the most significant directors in the industry. From thrilling superhero movies to touching dramas. Movie lovers around the world are eagerly anticipating the release of these upcoming titles, as they prepare to immerse themselves in the magic of the big screen once again.

One of the most anticipated movies of the year is Barbie directed by Greta Gerwig. The film will be a collaboration between the iconic doll franchise and the critically acclaimed director Greta Gerwig. “Barbie,” aims to revolutionize the concept of Barbie, infusing the beloved character with depth, substance, and a modern and powerful message of the classic. The storyline of the film is still unclear, however, it is said to be similar to “The Truman Show (1998).” It’s safe to assume that the film will not be a kid-friendly movie, and is likely to have a dark twist. Many assume that the storyline will go along the lines of Barbie, realizing she lives in a fantasy world and going  to the “real world” to discover secrets about her life. Greta Gerwig has directed many incredible movies such as Little Women (2019),  Lady Bird (2017), and many more. She will be joined by the star-studded cast of Margot Robbie playing Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken. They play alongside many other notable actors such as Emma Mackey, Will Ferrell, Simi Liu, Issa Rae, and Micheal Cera. Freya Malala from 10th grade said, “I’m most excited to see Barbie because I think it’ll be a really fun and nostalgic movie to see plus it's directed by one of my favorite directors.” Although the movie has been mostly kept a mystery, this summer on July 21st, “Barbie,” is promised to blow the minds of every audience.

Asteroid City is an upcoming film directed by the famous Wes Anderson, known for his distinct visual style and unique storytelling. In this highly anticipated film, Anderson will take audiences on a whimsical journey through a space convention in the 50s. The movie will follow many different families, as they accompany their passionate kids to a space convention set in the desert where they all unexpectedly are required to quarantine together after having to quarantine together after experiencing world-changing events. The film’s cast consists of many remarkable names such as Tom Hanks, Maya Hawke, Scarlett Johanson, Margot Robbie, Edward Norton, Tony Revolori Adrien Brody, and many more. Wes Anderson’s last release was “The French Dispatch, (2021),” a love letter to Journalists. After much suspense, Anderson announced the release date for his new film, which is on   June 23rd, 2023. Lémans film teach, Ms.Han said, “The film looks really fun! I’m a huge fan of Wes Anderson and can’t wait to see what else he has in store. The premise is a little different to his other films and the cast looks great - a favourite of mine is Tiara Swinton. A few familiar faces are back to. Can’t wait to see it on the big screen.”

The third chapter in the cherished Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) series, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, is eagerly awaited. Directed by James Gunn, this next chapter in the Guardians saga promises to be an epic space adventure filled with action, humor, and emotional depth. Marvel's official synopsis for the movie is “Still reeling from the loss of Gamora, Peter Quill must rally his team to defend the universe and protect one of their own. If the mission is not completely successful, it could possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them.” The film has an outstanding cast reprising the original and iconic roles. Chris Pratt returns as Star-Lord, Dave Bautista as Drax, Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket Raccoon, and Vin Diesel voicing Groot. Additionally, the film introduces new characters, played by talented actors, who add further depth to the journey. Ethan Bader in 10th grade said “I feel like nothing can top the first two movies and anything they put will be a letdown. I still think it will be good though, but Marvel is definitely at its downfall.”
The upcoming months of movie releases hold promise, and film enthusiasts have much to look forward to. The upcoming releases offer a blend of entertainment, ideas, and creativity that will surely captivate audiences and contribute greatly to the current cinematic landscape.
