Fall sports rewind!

By Paloma Alonso

History has been made on all fronts of the 2023 fall athletic season here at Leman. It's been evident throughout the season that Leman’s student-athletes have been putting in their time, effort, dedication, and overall hard work into their sport, making everyone at Leman proud.

However, many sports have been disregarded or overlooked within the community… until now. Cross Country has been a sport that not many students at Leman have paid attention to until recently as Leman has continuously been coming out on top in the ISAL Cross Country meets. The most recent one being in September when junior Blair Walsh took home first place at a meet in Van Cortlandt park, making not only her teammates proud but representing the Bulls in the best way possible. On Thursday October 26th, the undefeated Cross Country team made their way to the ISAL championships, with both the middle and high school girls winning the championship, and making Leman history in doing so with being the first Varsity Girls Cross Country team to win a championship. On top of that, Blair Walsh snatched 1st again, as if the first time wasn’t enough for the running star. When asked about how it felt to cross the finish line and become champions, Blair said, “It was so incredible to be the first girl crossing the finish line knowing how much I improved on the course and my time over the season. Everyone on the team was so proud knowing that we had won the first ISAL championships ever for girls in Leman history, as well as knowing how hard everyone worked at the meets each time and the way our work paid off.”
Making history has seemed to become a common theme throughout the fall season for Leman. The Boys JV soccer team carried on this theme by gaining their first win for Leman in 5 years. Likewise, the Girls Varsity Soccer team had their first win for Leman in 2 years with goals by Sophomore, Janai Snagg, and Junior, Victoria Cornet.

Other varsity sports like Boys Soccer and Girls Volleyball have also found many ways to live up to the Bull name by having a fulfilling and thrilling season. With a rough start to the season, the Girls Varsity Volleyball team pulled through and wound up ending their season in the semifinals of the ACIS championship with a riveting game against Berkeley Carroll. Putting up a massive fight, with sets ending in scores like 25-23, 25-22, and even winning a set, the lady Bulls put their all on the court of their final game, ending the season with a bang. Similarly, the Boys Varsity Soccer team made it to the finals of the ACIS championships, hoping to reclaim their title as champions as they had done in 2021. However, the game ended in a devastating loss of 3-0. Nevertheless, it was evident to note that the boys gave it their all and put everything they had on the field. It was a wonderful and exciting performance from all the Bulls and we hope to see them rightfully gain back that title next season.

Altogether, the feelings that the Leman community should be expressing to our fall sports team ought to be nothing but proud. It was clear to see how hard everybody worked this season and the teams overflowed with school spirit. Hopefully the Bulls will continue to take this energy into the winter and spring season, and continue making Leman students honored to be supporting them.
